TALINN – The Thai national team experienced an unpleasant fate during their European tour on FIFA Matchday October 2023. First, they had to be content with enduring the embarrassment of being slaughtered by Georgia 0-8 at Lokomotivi Stadium, in the middle of last week.
This minor result looks like it will continue when they visit Estonia’s headquarters at Lillekula Stadium, Talinn on Tuesday (17/10/2023). The reason is, the physical condition of the Thai players is quite worrying ahead of the match.
Thailand was forced to make a circuitous flight via Latvia. This is because we cannot fly directly from Georgia to Estonia because Ukrainian air routes are closed.
The journey from Georgia to Latvia takes five hours. After transit, they continued their journey again for five hours, the total time taken was 10 hours, according to Thai media, Thairath, Monday (16/10/2023).
Sadly, the Thai national team did not have food supplies during the flight. They were forced to endure hunger during the flight amidst extreme fatigue.
Thai journalist Ta Lao reported that the Thai national team bus made an emergency stop at a fast food restaurant so the players could fill their stomachs. In the uploaded photo, the midfielder, Channarong Promsrikaew, can be seen getting off the bus while holding a bag of French fries.
Arriving in Estonia, coach Alexander ‘Mano’ Polking changed his team’s training program. The training session was postponed and the Thai national team players only had a recovery session in the swimming pool.
Even though they faced many obstacles during their European tour on FIFA Matchday October 2023, Bordin Phala said Thailand was ready to rise to victory against Estonia.
“After the defeat against Georgia, there was a discussion within the team. ‘Try to forget the mistakes in the last match and let’s fight again.’ I want to play this game better than before,” said Bordin Phala.
“We are targeting victory. Thank you to the football fans who have cheered. We will do a good job for all fans,” added the Port FC player.
