“The Egyptians did not provide any kind of intelligence alert – not directly, not indirectly, not by hint, not by murmur, not by eye – to any of the people in contact with them, certainly not to the prime minister, who has not met with the Egyptian minister of intelligence throughout his term, but not with confidants like me, the head of the secret service or the Mossad, the IDF commanders who are in contact with him. This is fake news which of course was denied – not only by us but also by the Egyptians. That same night, about 2 1/2 hours before the attack, which began at 6.30 a.m., there were intelligence signals that led to the call of the head of the Shin Bet Secret Service at 4 a.m., and then there was a conversation with the heads of the army. Both the Shin Bet and the military judged, based on the evidence before them, that this did not predict what we all eventually suffered. Again, these issues will be reviewed. The fact is that Hezbollah, for now, is looking for an escalation of the situation.
