“It’s better to just use the speaker model! Honestly, guilty (feeling guilty) allowing a 13 year old child to use AirPods. “They haven’t been that wise in regulating usage,” wrote Zaskia, quoted from the CNN page, Friday (13/10/2023).
Zaskia also found another patient who was 14 years old, but whose hearing was like that of a 60 year old person. The habit of using earphones for a long time and at a loud volume damages the nerves and is difficult to heal.
So, when can mothers give earphones or devices for listening to music to children?
Discuss Wicaksono, an ENT specialist at RSIA Kemang Medical Care, said that a parent’s decision to introduce a child to earphones requires looking at the child’s condition.
“My advice is more towards understanding responsibility. “So, if the child understands how to use gadgets responsibly, then he will be given headphones (or earphones),” said Bagas.
Usually, children aged 5-7 years can already be given an understanding of the use of earphones. However, if in this age range the parents feel that the child is not ready, it is best to postpone it.
He also said that in the world of ear, nose and throat health there is a term 60 per 60. This term means that the volume is sufficient at 60 percent of the maximum volume and a maximum of 60 minutes. After 60 minutes, the ears must rest for at least 15-30 minutes.
“Take breaks as much as possible to rest your ears. If you want to listen, use speakers that are not too loud and are far enough away,” he said.
Then, what about the dangers of using earphones excessively?
