GAZA – Russian hackers known as Killnet officially declared cyber war against Israel. This action responded to Israel’s indiscriminate cyber attacks on Gaza.
This group announced its intention to launch a massive cyber attack targeting various government systems in Israel, reported by AlBawaba News, Sunday (08/10/2023).
The Killnet cyber attack followed a surprise attack on Israeli military posts. On Saturday (07/10/2023) morning, the Izzuddin Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), announced the start of Operation “Al-Aqsa Typhoon” against ‘Israel’ and launched 5000 thousand rockets, reported Al Jazeera.
“Government of Israel, you are responsible for this bloodshed. In 2022, you support the terrorist regime in Ukraine. You betrayed Russia. Today, Killnet officially tells you this! All Israeli government systems will be the target of our attacks!” Killnet said on the hacked website, reported Cybernews (08/10/2023).
Anonymous Sudan, another hacker group, widely thought to be neither anonymous nor Sudanese – but Russian, has sided with Hamas and Killnet on Telegram.
The group attacked The Jerusalem Post website on Sunday. The media outlet said on
“We will be back soon and will continue to be the main source of information regarding Operation Iron Sword and the deadly attacks carried out by Hamas.”
On Saturday, Anonymous Sudan claimed to have targeted Israel’s Iron Dome, the country’s all-weather air defense system, and also said it had attacked Israel’s Alert app.
Another Russian hacker group, the Cyber Army of Russia, conducted a poll to determine which side they should support on Sunday evening.
In Pakistan, a group using the name “Team Insane PK” said it had hacked a hydroelectric power plant in Israel and planned to release the data later.
Group-IB, a Singapore-based cybersecurity company, said on Sunday via its Threat Intelligence platform that multiple groups of threat actors have entered the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“We have seen that threat actor groups are entering the fray and launching attacks against government websites and IT systems amid the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” researchers at X said.
