Mothers who are registered as BPJS Health participants certainly already know that participants need to pay a predetermined contribution every month.
However, quite a few people wonder, if BPJS Health is not used, can the contributions be disbursed?
Please note that by paying monthly fees, each participant is entitled to health insurance. Whether you are sick or not, membership remains valid. Therefore, mothers cannot withdraw BPJS Health contributions.

This is because the BPJS Health mechanism is mutual cooperation. This means that unused or unclaimed contributions will be used as a cross-subsidy to help other participants who are sick.
However, that doesn’t mean this is detrimental, Mom. Because, by becoming a BPJS Health participant, medical costs will be covered. In fact, if the medical costs are quite high, BPJS Health will still cover it.
This means that no one is harmed in the working mechanism of BPJS Health. Everyone supports each other with a mutual cooperation system.
BPJS Health Contributions
There are several notes regarding the costs of BPJS Health contributions. Arif said that for Wage Recipient Workers (PPU) participants or normal workers, both state officials such as ASN, TNI, POLRI and private workers, the contribution amount is 5 percent of wages.
The details are 4 percent paid by the employer, and 1 percent by the employee. He also stated that there are upper and lower limits for the basis for calculating BPJS contributions.
“For calculating this contribution, the lower limit is also applied, namely the district/city minimum wage and the upper limit is IDR 12 million,” he said, quoted from the detik.com page, Saturday (7/10/2023).
“The calculation of contributions from a person’s income only applies to PPU membership types, formal workers who receive wages regularly from their employers,” he continued.
The reference for calculating BPJS contributions remains at the upper limit of IDR 12 million. If a worker has a salary above IDR 12 million, for example IDR 13 million, then the contribution paid remains 5 percent of IDR 12 million.
