Terence Crawford will have to go through several stages if he wants to challenge undisputed super middleweight king Saul Canelo Alvarez . The stage that the undisputed welterweight champion must go through is to move up to 160 weight and face Janibek Alimkhanuly.
If Crawford passes that first test, he should move up to 168 and face David Benavidez or David Morrell. If he manages to get past one of these fighters and maintain his undefeated record, then he is ready to meet Canelo.
Crawford would have a hard time expecting him to face Dmitry Bivol, but if he wants to solidify his position for a fight with Canelo, fighting the undefeated WBA light heavyweight champion would be the way to go.
“Canelo is great. The way he uses his deception to set up shots at certain angles where he positions his body in a place where he knows he can hit the guy, but the guy can’t hit him,” said Keyshawn Davis to Fighthype, Friday (6/10/2023 ).
“I don’t know. I think he (Crawford) can beat Canelo. I think your real question is how much will the weight affect him. Will the weight affect him? I don’t know. I think that’s a question we all have to wait and see look, even for him. He never does that,” added Davis.
