HANGZHOU – The Indonesian dragon boat team has contributed 4 medals at the 2022 Asian Games. However, they are still optimistic that they can add to their medal coffers and bring home gold.
In 2 days of competition held at the Wenzhou Dragon Boat Center, the Indonesian team won 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. Maryati et al won the first silver medal in the women’s 200 meter class after recording a time of 54.464 seconds, Wednesday (4/10/2023). The next two silver medals were won in the men’s and women’s 500 meters that competed today.
In the men’s 500 meters, Andri Agus Mulyana et al recorded a time of 2 minutes 09.165 seconds or a difference of 0.02 seconds from China as the fastest. Meanwhile, in the women’s event, the Indonesian team again had to acknowledge the home side’s superiority after recording a time of 2 minutes 23.190 seconds.
The only bronze currently was won by the men’s team in the 200 meters. With a record of 49.171 seconds, Andri Agus et al were the third fastest behind China and Thailand.
“In the past two days we have completed the 200 and 500 meters. For the 200 meters we got a silver and a bronze, indeed that is the maximum according to our strategy,” said Indonesian Dragon Boat Team Coach, Suryadi in a written statement, Thursday (5/10/2023 ).
“Our target was a gold medal, and we didn’t get that hope in the 500 meters, where we closed to the finish, losing to China by a margin of only 0.02 seconds. To the naked eye we were superior, but after being shown the finish photo, we lost,” he explained.
Even so, the Indonesian dragon boat team still has hopes of completing its target of bringing home gold medals from the men’s and women’s 1000 meters which will only be contested on Friday (7/10/2023).
For this reason, the coaching team is trying to rearrange strategies and strengthen the players’ preparations so that they will perform at their best tomorrow.
“Even though this silver is a failure. We hope that in the 1,000 meters we can take gold. In terms of endurance and strength, we have to be hot from the start. Early starters in the 50 meters, the children also have to be more full of power so that we are not left behind. We must not be hot too late so that you can get gold,” said Suryadi.
“The opportunity is there for the men’s 1,000 meters, we should be able to get better results. Because with this result we are not satisfied, the target has not been achieved. Break the gold first and then we will be satisfied that we can meet the target,” he concluded.
