A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 was recorded 550 kilometers south of Tokyo, near the island of Torishima, at a depth of ten kilometers
According to the assessment given by the Meteorological and Seismological Service of Japan, there is a potential risk of tsunami, so it called on the population to be careful.
Japan is one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world. The earthquake occurred on the day the second phase of dumping radioactive water from Japan’s Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea began.
The Fukushima Daiichi plant was destroyed by the tsunami that triggered a massive 9.0-9.1 earthquake in the Pacific on March 11, 2011. It was the strongest earthquake ever recorded in Japan’s history and the fourth strongest since 1900.
