The Brit Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced that Ed Sheeran has become the first British musician to receive a Gold BRIT Billion Award.
The Gold BRIT Billion Awards celebrate Ed’s landmark achievement as the first British musician to surpass 10 billion career streams in the UK, as calculated by the Official Charts Company. More than a billion of those streams came in the last 12 months alone.
Ed Sheeran is a musician who has a large fan community in England and has repeatedly made history on the world charts with proud achievements, including being the first artist to have four albums in the Official Albums Chart Top 10 for a year and the first British solo artist to has had a full year of songs at the top of the Official Singles Chart.
Six number one albums in the UK, seven BRIT Awards and 14 songs that spent weeks at number one in the UK charts, Ed recently broke the Mathematics concert tour ticket record for 81,000 fans at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, United States .
Then, Ed Sheeran currently holds three of the 10 most streamed songs of all time with Shape of You (#2), Perfect (#3), and Bad Habits (#9).
His latest album, Autumn Variations, was released on September 29 and is the second album of the year to top the charts, having been released in May.
“It’s incredible to receive the UK’s first BRIT Billion Award for 10 billion streams. I want to say a big thank you to my fans. None of this would have been possible without you x,” wrote Ed Sheeran on social media X (formerly Twitter).
The BPI is the British recorded music industry Trade association which organizes the BRIT Awards, Classic BRIT Awards and National Albums Day. Asocial is also home to the Mercury Prize, co-owns the Official Charts Company with the Entertainment Retailers Association, and awards British music sales through the BRIT Certified Awards
