LAS VEGAS – Mexican boxing star Saul Canelo Alvarez is not really interested in fighting Terence Crawford at the moment. He expressed this after defeating Jermell Charlo at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, United States, Sunday (1/10/2023) WIB.
As previously reported, Canelo was able to dominate the 12 rounds of the fight against Charlo, until finally achieving a unanimous decision victory. The 33-year-old boxer not only retained his undisputed super middleweight title, but also extended his career record to 60-2-2 (39KOs).
For some time now there have been calls for Canelo to face Crawford, who is the undisputed champion in junior welterweight and welterweight with a fighting record of 40-0 (31KO). Canelo is expected to fight Crawford at his next appearance.
Canelo finally responded to the possibility of fighting Crawford. “If the fight makes sense, go ahead. But right now, the fight against Terence Crawford doesn’t make sense. I just won, let me enjoy this,” said Canelo after defeating Charlo, as quoted by Sky Sports, Monday (2/10 /2023).
“This is Canelo, I’m finally back. I feel great and I feel happy because I haven’t felt like this for a long time. I’m back,” he continued.
Meanwhile, after giving Charlo a second professional defeat, Canelo said that no one could beat him. “We know he is a great fighter. He knows how to move in the ring,” said Canelo.
“We trained to attack his body for 3 months. For 3 months in the mountains without my family, without everything,” he said again.
Even though Raven ultimately got a knockout win over Charlo, Canelo wasn’t too disappointed. In the seventh round, Canelo himself made Charlo kneel on the canvas with a hard right punch. However, Jermall Charlo’s twin brother was still able to stand up and beat the referee’s count.
“I’m not disappointed because I didn’t get a knockout win. I feel great. That’s why we fought 12 rounds,” said Canelo.
“If I don’t get a knockout, I get 12 rounds to show that I am the best, that I am the better fighter. That’s why 12 rounds, to show who is better,” concluded the boxer whose birth name was Santos Saul Alvarez Barragan. .
