Megawati Soekarnoputri has held the position of General Chair of the PDI-P since 1998. The longevity of Megawati’s term of office was apparently also highlighted by her older brother, Guntur Soekarnoputra. In fact, Guntur recently proposed that Megawati step down from her position and be replaced by President Joko Widodo.
This was then responded to by PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto. Seen on the YouTube channel Liputan6, Hasto admitted that he accepted every idea that came in, including the potential for Jokowi to replace Megawati as PDIP chairman in the future.

“As an idea, of course we accept it as input, but regarding the PDI Perjuangan, the priority scale is winning the elections. This is the IV Rakernas, then the V Rakernas will be held after the election, and then in 2025 the VI Party Congress will be held. “In the congress, sovereignty is in the hands of the members, that is the highest decision-making body, that will be the mechanism that will run within the party,” said Hasto, quoted on Monday (2/10/2023).
Even so, Hasto emphasized that his party always listens to what the grassroots want instead of just relying on the elite. “The PDI Perjuangan tradition is of course bottom-line politics, politics of listening to the heartstrings of the members, because the congress will be attended by all delegates from the lowest level,” said Hasto.
“Later in 2025, we will win first. “After the election is won with the support of the people, (then) the PDI Perjuangan must oversee it,” he continued, referring to Ganjar Pranowo’s government if it wins the 2024 presidential election.

On the other hand, speculation that Jokowi will leave PDIP has continued to emerge in recent times, especially after his youngest son Kaesang Pangarep was named Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). Many believe that Jokowi is no longer comfortable in the PDIP because the party is still controlled by the Soekarno clan.
One who agrees with this is political observer M Qodari. “Actually, if Pak Jokowi goes to PSI, in my opinion it is a sign of extraordinary politeness or restraint from Pak Jokowi. “Because there are actually no parties ‘fanning’ Pak Jokowi to take over PDIP leadership in the 2020 National Working Meeting,” said Qodari, quoted from the tvOneNews YouTube channel.
