Brad Binder managed to break Jorge Lorenzo’s lap record during the 2023 Japanese MotoGP free practice session at the Motegi Twin Ring Circuit, Friday (29/9/2023). In FP2, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing racer managed to be the fastest by recording a time of 1 minute 43.489 seconds.
Binder successfully passed Jorge Lorenzo’s lap record which has stood for eight years. Before being broken by a racer from South Africa, Lorenzo held the record for the fastest lap during the 2015 Japanese MotoGP race.
At that time, Lorenzo recorded a time of 1 minute 43.790 seconds and is now 0.301 seconds away from Binder’s new record. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) finished second in FP2 MotoGP Japan 2023 or 0.029 seconds behind Binder.
Then, ALeix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) was in third place with a time difference of 0.295 seconds. However, surprisingly, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda) did not make it into the top 10. As a result, both of them have to undergo Qualification session 1 on Saturday, September 30 2023.
Fabio Quartararo fell at the sixth corner. The French racer even limped to return to the pits.
Suffering the same fate as Fabio Quartararo, Marc Marquez fell at the first corner. Even though he was in 14th place, his time record was declared invalid because the yellow flag was being raised after Raul Fernandez fell.
