Reasons why Saudi Arabia does not celebrate the Prophet’s birthday
Although the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday is held in several countries, the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday has received mixed responses from Arab countries. In the past, the Prophet’s birthday was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the Hijaz and Makkah, even attended by dignitaries from the Shafi’i, Hanafi, Hanbali, and Maliki schools.
But after the Arab countries were controlled by the Bani Saud, the Prophet’s Maulid was no longer celebrated. The birth of the Prophet is actually prohibited in the land of the Prophet’s birth. because it is considered an act of heresy.
Through its government, namely Al-Mamlakah Al-Arabiyyah As-Su’udiyyah (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) has a very sensitive view towards various rumors because it is very worried about the emergence of shirk. They prohibit all forms of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday which do not have a clear legal basis from the Al-Qur’an and Hadith (Bid’ah).
Scholars in Saudi Arabia consider the Prophet’s birthday is not the right way to show love for the Messenger of God. because there is no proof for sure. The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Ash-Sheikh issued a fatwa that commemorates the birthday of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. including superstitious practices and contrary to the teachings of Islam.

2 Countries that do not celebrate the Prophet’s birthday
Apart from Saudi Arabia which does not celebrate the Prophet’s birthday, Qatar also prohibits celebrating the Prophet’s birthday in any form. Both Saudi Arabia and Qatar adhere to Wahhabi or Salafi beliefs, so it is not surprising that the basis of religious law is almost the same.
Wahabi is a channel that developed from a Muslim theologian in the 18th century named Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab from Najd, Saudi Arabia. Muslims in Qatar also believe celebrating the Prophet’s birthday is heresy.
