Canadian autoworkers ratified a new labor agreement Sunday with Ford Motor Company.
Lana Payne, president of Canada’s national autoworkers union, Unifor, said, “This is an extraordinary deal and I know people’s lives will change as a result of what’s happening here.”
For said the agreement was “historic.”
Based on the first year of the agreement, Ford offered a 10 percent salary increase, followed by two percent and three percent for the second and third years.
Under the agreement, new workers can reach the highest salary level in four years, not the current eight years.
The agreement also stipulates a $10,000 bonus for all permanent workers and $4,000 for temporary workers.
Meanwhile in the US, thousands of members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union launched a strike against Stellantis, Ford and General Motors as well as 36 spare parts distribution centers.
