NEW YORK – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the world must unite to defeat Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“We have to stop it. We must act united to defeat the aggressors and focus all our capabilities and energies on overcoming these challenges. “When nuclear weapons are restrained, the aggressors must also be restrained,” said Zelensky during a speech at the UN General Assembly as quoted by CNN, Wednesday (20/9/2023).
Zelensky warned global leaders at the UN General Assembly that the goals of Russia’s invasion were not just about Ukraine.
First, he cited Russia’s blockade of Black Sea ports as making it difficult for Ukraine to ship its food grains, raising concerns about rising food prices contributing to global hunger.
“It’s clear – Russia’s attempt to weaponize food shortages on the global market in exchange for recognition of some, if not all, of the captured territories,” Zelensky explained.
“Russia is using food prices as a weapon. The impact spans the Atlantic coast of Africa to Southeast Asia. And this is the scale of the threat,” he added.
Later, Zelensky pointed to Russia’s efforts to block gas and oil supplies to European countries that depend on it, calling it “energy weaponization.”
“The Kremlin is weaponizing oil and gas to weaken other countries’ leaders,” he said.
“Now, this threat is even greater,” he added.
