KOWLOON – The Indonesian men’s doubles pair, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan, used their failure at the Hong Kong Open 2023 as motivation to perform better in the upcoming European tour tournament. They also see this experience as a positive learning experience, especially because it has been quite a long time since they last reached the semifinals of a tournament.
Their best achievement this year was reaching the final at the All England in March before losing to their junior teammates, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto. They also reached the quarterfinals at the 2023 BWF World Championships. However, they went home early in the 2023 China Open, losing in the first round.
At the Hong Kong Open 2023, Ahsan and Hendra lost in the semifinals to the Danish pair, Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, with a score of 22-24, 21-19 and 11-21. They acknowledged the improvement in their opponents’ performance and realized that they made some mistakes in the match.
Even though they lost, Ahsan and Hendra saw this result as motivation to perform better in the upcoming European tour. They hope to achieve better results in the next competition and return to their best level of performance.
“But this result is still a good thing for us. We haven’t been to the semifinals for a long time, this is motivation for the European tour later. Hopefully the results will be better,” said Hendra after the match.
