Get to know Hugo Samir, son of Jacksen F Tiago who was called up to the Indonesian U-24 national team for 2022 Asian Games projections
JAKARTA – Hugo Samir, a talented young player, has been selected as one of the 22 players called by coach Indra Sjafri to represent the Indonesian U-24 National Team in the 2022 Asian Games. In this squad, Hugo Samir has the ambition to become a key player in the attack line.
The player calls made by Indra Sjafri attracted attention, considering that some of them had limited playing experience at club level, such as Daffa Fasya, George Brown and Hugo Samir.
Hugo Samir, who is also the son of the famous Indonesian coach, Jacksen F. Tiago, previously played for the Indonesian U-19 and U-20 national teams. Apart from his achievements on the field, Hugo Samir was also in the spotlight because he received a ban from playing for 12 months.
Even though he is still young, Hugo Samir has an impressive record of achievements at age level, including winning the Karlos Cup top scorer title in 2016 by scoring 11 goals from 7 appearances.
“My target here is that if I can, I will give my best and be able to play first in the Asian Games squad later. “Of course, it’s also very good for my own development,” said Hugo to media crew including MNC Portal Indonesia, Saturday (16/9/2023).
Apart from that, Hugo Samir also has experience playing for the U-19 and U-20 Indonesian national teams, where he managed to score two goals in the six matches he played. However, he also has a poor record in terms of discipline, having been punished by the PSSI Disciplinary Commission (Komdis) for an incident where he kicked a referee.
Even though he is still relatively young, Hugo Samir has played for several clubs in Indonesia, including Persebaya Surabaya, Barito Putera, and Bhayangkara FC. In the 2023/2024 season, he joined Borneo FC, although until the 11th week, he had not had the opportunity to play in the senior team.
