KYIV – A total of 17 Russian kamikaze drones attacked military flying reports in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, on Thursday evening.
Moscow’s drone attack was in revenge after Kyiv fighter jets bombarded Crimea on Wednesday.
The drones also hunted Kyiv fighter jets involved in attacks in Crimea.
The Ukrainian Air Force on Friday (15/9/2023) confirmed that 17 Russian kamikaze drones attacked the central region of Khmelnytskyi which is the location of the Starokostiantyniv air base.
The base was attacked repeatedly during the war.
The Ukrainian Air Force, in a statement, claimed that all the Russian drones had been downed.
“The debris damaged 12 houses and broke windows at a school, but no one was injured,” said local official Serhiy Tiurin.
“The Khmelnytskyi region was attacked. We understand what the enemy is looking for: where the commando hid our bombers after the recent events in the sea near Crimea,” added Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Colonel Yuriy Ihnat, as quoted by Reuters, Saturday ( 9/16/2023).
Russia, which invaded Ukraine nearly 19 months ago, has not commented on overnight drone strikes.
Ukraine’s military earlier said it carried out a missile attack on a shipyard in the Crimean port of Sevastopol on Wednesday morning, causing severe damage to two Navy ships – a large landing ship and a submarine.
Sky News reported that a British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missile was fired by a Ukrainian warplane during the operation.
