JAKARTA – Borussia Dortmund, the famous German football club, is happy to welcome the U-17 Indonesian National Team who will undergo training camp (TC) in Germany. Benedikt Scholz, Dortmund’s International and Commercial Director, stated his readiness to provide the best facilities to the teams that will compete in the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
He made this statement while attending a coaching clinic for students from the Papua Football Academy (PFA) as well as several Dortmund legends. This event took place at the Madya Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (8/9/2023). Some of the Dortmund legends who attended included Marcel Schmelzer, Paul Lambert and Jorg Heinrich.
Scholz said, “First of all, I would like to thank Erick and the entire team from PSSI. I am very happy and proud to be here with the legends of our club, such as Paul Lambert who won the Champions League title in 1997, and several others. We brought Marcel Schmelzer, and I see this as Borussia Dortmund’s commitment to Indonesia, as well as the Bundesliga’s (German league) commitment to Indonesia.”
He also mentioned the visit of the U-17 Indonesian National Team to Germany to undergo TC. Dortmund, known as Die Borussen, will welcome them with open arms and are willing to provide the best facilities.
“The Indonesian U-17 national team will be in Germany in September and October, in Dortmund too. We are really looking forward to their arrival and will try our best. We will provide access to all our facilities, all our staff, and the best of what we have,” said Scholz.
Scholz emphasized that his commitment was not just a sweet promise. Previously, the General Chair of PSSI, Erick Thohir, had seen firsthand the superior facilities owned by Borussia Dortmund.
“Erick Thohir has also visited us in Dortmund and seen our facilities. We have focused on nurturing young talent for the last 15 years. Several players such as Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Marco Reus, Mario Goetze, have all come through our academy, and this is something which we will share with PSSI and Indonesian football,” he concluded.
