CHANGZHOU – Anthony Sinisuka Ginting was only able to last 65 minutes in the 2023 China Open tournament. This minor result was discovered after the Indonesian men’s singles failed to advance to the second round after being defeated by Kanta Tsuneyama in a fierce rubber game battle 11-21, 21-18 and 17-21 in Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Wednesday (6/9/2023).
In the first game, Anthony performed poorly. He made many mistakes until he was 1-6 behind. Apart from that, the world’s second ranked player’s defense was also very fragile so Tsuneyama could easily penetrate it.
As a result, Tsuneyama was able to reach the first game interval with an 11-6 advantage. Not wanting to be embarrassed, Ginting tried to get out of the pressure and slowly got closer to 9-12. His cross smashes several times made it difficult for his opponent.
However, entering the critical points the 26 year old player was once again caught off guard. As a result, he fell far behind at 10-16 before finally losing with a score of 21-11.
In the second game, Ginting played much better. He can match Tsuneyama’s game. The score continued to be a draw from the start until it reached a score of 8-8.
After that, the 2023 Asian Champion managed to take control of the game. The variety of smashes he launched was successful in bringing him to an 11-8 lead in the second game interval.
After the break, Ginting played consistently keeping his best game pattern. As a result, he dreamed at 16-13 and finally grabbed the second game with a 21-18 victory.
Ginting started the third game well. His attacks were very effective in silencing the opponent which took him ahead 6-2 and 8-4. However, after that he made a lot of his own mistakes so that Tsuneyama was able to regain the lead 11-9 at the interval.
Onik – Ginting’s nickname – was no longer able to find his best touch after the break. He continued to fall behind at 13-16 before finally falling with a score of 17-21.
