JAKARTA – In the quarter-finals of the FIBA World Cup 2023 which will take place tonight, Tuesday (5/9/2023), the United States and Italy will fight fiercely on the field. This match promises extraordinary action from both teams who are fighting to reach the next round. This exciting match will be a challenge to the players’ abilities and determination.
For the first time in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, the United States will try to recover from defeat. Lithuania defeated the US team and handed it a 110-104 loss. The loss to Lithuania was a tough blow for the US team to take, but the focus is on recovering and finishing the tournament strong on the way to the top.
Anthony Edwards continued to star for the US team, contributing 35 points in the loss. That’s just three points shy of Kevin Durant’s US team record and shows why Edwards is touted as the leader of the pack. He is averaging 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists so far in the tournament and will need to do that again against tough Italy.
Meanwhile, Italy was hoping for an easier opponent after securing first place in their group, but they have to face America in this match. In fact, Italy has important qualities in teamwork, unity and a charismatic coach that is very important in international basketball.
The captain, Simone Fontecchio is the team leader and the top scorer and second best rebounder for his team. Beside him, the duo of Stefano Tonut and Marco Spissu stand out in the guard position by averaging more than 11 points/game, what is of concern to Italian fans is their three-point shooting which has been quite poor so far in this tournament. Their shooting percentage is just over 31%. So, between two tough teams, the United States and Italy, which team was able to control the match and score the most points?
