According to Vera, there are several things that make Indonesia a more suitable place to raise children. One of the differences that is quite pronounced is how Indonesians can get a lot of help from babysitters in raising their children.
“Of course it’s because of the help of the nuns. In fact, in China you can also hire domestic help, but labor costs more there. In addition, the concept of helpers there is not the same as in Indonesia,” said Vera, quoted from the Halo Vera YouTube channel.
Vera said that Chinese people rarely rely on nannies to take care of their children. Children are used to spending time and sleeping with their parents or grandparents.
“It’s very rare for children to be given to nurses at night. But my friends in Indonesia, many of them let nurses sleep with their children,” he explained.
Since living in Indonesia, Vera admits that her parenting style has mixed a lot of Chinese and Indonesian habits.
“My first son Oliv is 3.5 years old and has always had a nurse. But from birth until now, basically every night he sleeps with me. Very typical Chinese mother way. My second child, Jasper, is over 2 months old, nurse and “I took turns sleeping with him, which is typical of Indonesian mothers,” he said.
Another positive side of raising children in Indonesia is being surrounded by a very child-friendly environment. Vera said that many Chinese people don’t like or even hate children.
“On my Chinese social media, a few days ago someone posted (appeal) that people with children please don’t post photos on social media because he doesn’t like looking at children’s photos. According to him, all children are ugly and he hates them. people with children,” said Vera.
“Meanwhile, on Indonesian social media, just look at Instagram, there are lots of feeds about children. No one in Indonesia says nonsense about me and my children. Fortunately, I am not an active person on social media. I hope I am not hated (by them),” he added.
Apart from that, mothers can get harsh ridicule when they take their children for a walk in China and their little one suddenly throws a tantrum or cries.
“They will get angry and say that parents cannot control the child. Whereas in Indonesia if you take a child out and they cry, the people next to you will help you comfort and calm the baby. So in Indonesia I don’t have a mental burden when take the kids out,” he said.
In addition, Indonesia is also a better place to raise children than China because the cost of living is much cheaper according to Vera. Read on the page after this.
