Juvenile delinquency itself is related to how the condition of adolescents is in its initial phase. If not handled properly, this delinquency will continue when the child’s age grows up.
“If we don’t handle it properly, then when we enter adulthood, we will have problems mentally and socially. We can become psychopaths and so on,” explained the Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Pediatrician Association (IDAI), dr. Piprim Basarah Yanuarso, SpA(K), in the webinar ‘Educating mentally and socially strong youth’, Monday (28/8/2023).

IDAI’s response to juvenile delinquency
On the same occasion, the Head of the IDAI Juvenile Task Force, Dr. Rodman Tarigan, SpA(K), M.Kes, expressed his concern over the rampant cases of juvenile delinquency that are occurring in society. Even so, his party will continue to provide education and advocacy to parents.
“Of course IDAI’s response to the existence of this juvenile delinquency case we are very concerned about. And of course we from the Youth Task Force continue to provide education and advocacy to parents,” he explained.
Furthermore, dr. Rodmad said IDAI in the district had no opportunity to have an audience with the health sector or related parties to present these juvenile articles. So that decisions and policies are still given to the government.
“Decision makers in that area have a policy to prevent violence against youth. Because of course the problem of juvenile delinquency is not an easy thing, we from IDAI have the ability to provide advocacy. However, the policy makers are still on the government’s side, maybe the Ministry of National Education or maybe officials in the police or maybe also religious leaders,” he said.
