How to get rid of sore throat naturally
1. Warm or cold liquid
Consume warm drinks, such as tea or chicken soup. Or try cold water, such as ice water or popsicles. It depends on your preference and what soothes your throat the most.
“Fluids help clear mucous membranes, keep blood flowing and prevent sinus infections,” says Dr. Allan reported from Cleveland Clinic.
Warm temperatures can also reduce coughing by soothing the back of your throat. Try making both hot and cold drinks to see what works best for yourself.
2. Gargling
Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of salt or equal amount of baking soda in a glass of warm water. Gargle but don’t swallow.
Gargle every three hours to treat a sore throat naturally. Salt water can help reduce swelling and irritation of the throat.
While baking soda also soothes the throat, breaks up mucus, and can help with acid reflux that irritates the throat.
3. Steam and humidity
Hot baths can be an alternative way to get rid of a natural sore throat. When the weather gets very steamy, inhale the steam as a throat reliever.
Dr Allan says the steam thins mucus and can moisturise and soothe sore throats.
4. Hot toddy
A hot toddy is a combination drink made with water, whiskey, honey and a squeeze of lemon, served while still hot. Some people add spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, or ginger.
Dr. Allan says that honey can coat your throat and soothe it by reducing irritation. Honey also has antibacterial properties, and its sweet taste can soothe the nerve endings in the throat and reduce coughing.
While a little whiskey (too much can dehydrate you) can break down and thin mucus. Whiskey also dilates the blood vessels on the surface of the throat so that immune cells in the blood can proliferate and fight infection.
Spices stimulate saliva production, increase hydration, and loosen mucus in your throat.
5. Rest
Place your head on the pillow at the right time and close your eyes. Repeat as necessary.
“Don’t underestimate resting your body and voice physically,” says Dr. Allan.
However, Mother needs to be careful because sometimes lying on a flat bed can cause swelling due to increased pressure in the back of the throat.
Instead, try elevating the bed or sitting back in a chair to reduce pain and discomfort. When Mother experiences it, try the ways to get rid of a sore throat above to make it more comfortable during activities.
