The Special Prosecutor’s Office against Corruption and Organized Crime announced today that it has completed its investigations and has sent for trial the file against four former officials of Shkodër Municipality: Ergys Ivziku, Arvit Bushati, Petrit Dyli and Mhill Volaj.
They are accused of “active corruption” in this year’s local elections.
Two days before the May 14 elections, the Director of the Economic-Educational Directorate in the Shkodra Municipality, Ergys Ivziku, together with the support services technician Petrit Dylin and the finance specialist in this municipality, Mhill Volajn, were caught red-handed by the Shkodra police transporting with a van carrying 50 bags of food, which were suspected to be distributed to citizens in exchange for votes.
For this event, Arvit Bushati, Director of the Directorate of Water Supply and Sewerage, was declared wanted, who, from the preliminary investigation, turned out to be the person who ordered the food packages.
Two days after the event, the Court of Shkodra decided against the three arrestees the security measure of mandatory appearance, allowing the further continuation of the investigations by SPAK.
Now it will be the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime that will decide the fate of 4 former officials of Shkodër Municipality.
For the May 14 local elections, the General Prosecutor’s Office has registered 31 criminal reports related to electoral crime in 12 municipalities of the country.
Also, 6 people were arrested in the act, including the candidate of the opposition group “Bashke Fitomje” for the municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri.
