Two-time winner Grand Slam US Open, Naomi Osaka, looked stunning as she entered the first round match arena of the 2024 US Open on Tuesday (8/27). Appearing in a costume and tutu skirt and wrapped in a green ribbon, Osaka called her Harajuku-inspired outfit a “super suit” that gave her power in the match.
Osaka returned to the Flushing Meadows area after missing last year's U.S. Open following the birth of her daughter Shai. She took to the court in a layered tulle skirt and jacket adorned with a large green bow.
He then took off his covering suit and showed the outfit he was wearing to compete, which was also bright green. Not to be missed, Osaka's shoes are also decorated with ribbons of the same color.
“(The design) is taken from Japanese culture and Harajuku,” Osaka said of her costume, which was designed by designer Yoon Ahn.
She added that being involved in designing the costumes “gave me another kind of strength.
“Especially the US Open outfit. I felt like it was a little bit flamboyant. When I put my outfit on today, I was like, 'Ah, I hope this isn't too much,'” Osaka said.
“Because I was wearing a tutu and a jacket with a big ribbon and it was green, I felt like everyone was looking at me in surprise.
“Then I felt this costume made me more comfortable. A player came to me and asked to take a photo together. I hope it turns out well.”
The outfit Osaka wore Tuesday was one of the versions prepared for the U.S. Open. Before the tournament, Nike unveiled a black and white version of the outfit intended for night matches.
“For me, when I put this suit on it almost feels like a super suit, so I try to bring out that power,” Osaka added.
Osaka advanced to the second round after defeating Latvian 10th seed Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets, 6-3 6-2.
In the second round, Osaka will be facing Czech Republic tennis player, Karolina Muchova. (rs)
