The director of the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, met on Thursday behind closed doors with the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, in Pristina, as part of a visit to the region during which he also stayed in Sarajevo and Belgrade.
Neither side has yet given any details about the visit of Mr. Burns, which happens at a time when the American government has opposed the decisions for the north of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who these days is participating in the Assembly of Democrats in Chicago.
Mr. Burns arrived in Pristina from Belgrade, but there was no announcement about his visit there.
Mr. Burns was in Sarajevo on Tuesday for meetings with political and security agency officials, a visit during which, according to a US government official, he discussed the divisive rhetoric and actions of Republika Srpska's pro-Russian president, Milorad Dodik. .
Milorad Dodik enjoys Russian support for his stances, while there is widespread fear in the West that Moscow is trying to destabilize Bosnia and the rest of the Western Balkans, to shift at least some of the world's attention away from its aggression in Ukraine.
