President Joko Widodo will appoint several new ministers on Monday (19/8), including a minister for energy and investment, in a cabinet reshuffle carried out in the final months of his term, a presidential palace official said.
Jokowi will end his term in October, replaced by the president-elect who won last February's election and is also the current defense minister, Prabowo Subianto.
Coordinator of the President's Special Staff, Ari Dwipayana, said three new ministers would be announced on Monday, along with new heads of several government agencies. But Ari did not name them ahead of the official announcement.
Local media reported that current investment minister Bahlil Lahadalia would become energy and mineral resources minister. Bahlil's position would be replaced by Rosan Roeslani, a former Indonesian ambassador to the US who is head of Prabowo's campaign team.
Reports also said one of the government agency heads expected to be named on Monday is Dadan Hindayana, a professor at the Bogor Agricultural Institute. He will be named to head a new agency, the National Nutrition Agency, which will implement Prabowo's signature policy of providing healthy food to Indonesia's more than 80 million schoolchildren. (uh)
