Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Democrat, and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Republican, have agreed to hold a debate on Oct. 1, the first showdown between the vice presidential candidates as several states prepare for early voting in the November general election. .

CBS News wrote on the X Network on Wednesday that it had invited candidates Vance and Waltz to hold a debate in New York City, offering four possible dates, September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8.

Walz, a Democrat, shared the message from his campaign account for the vice president, writing, “See you Oct. 1, JD.” The Democratic duo's campaign, Harris-Waltz, commented in a message saying that Walz “looks forward to debating JD Vance – if he attends.”

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance wrote on the X Network that he will accept an invitation to the Oct. 1 debate, while challenging opponent Walz to a Sept. 18 debate.

There have been questions about whether candidates Walz and Vance would face off in a televised debate before the Nov. 5 election. A few weeks ago, President Joe Biden withdrew from the race for a second term in the White House, while the Democrats chose Vice President Harris to lead the presidential race.

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance has generally been focused on Democrat Harris, who he would have to debate before President Biden withdraws from the race. Mr. Vance has criticized opponent Walz, raising questions about the Democrat's time serving in the National Guard, a branch of the US military. Mr. Trump has said he wanted Mr. Vance to debate Mr. Walz on CBS television as the network discussed possible dates for the debate.

The debate between the rivals for vice president is expected to take place a few weeks after the main debate between the Republican Trump and the Democrat Harris, set for September 10 and moderated by the channel 'ABC News'.

The Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, has said that he has negotiated several more dates for possible debates on various television channels.

Fox News has also proposed a Sept. 4 debate between rivals Harris and Trump, and NBC News is aiming for a Sept. 25 debate. At a rally in Michigan, Ms. Harris said she was “happy for the opportunity to debate.”
