Ukraine's air force said it had shot down all five drones launched by Russia during an overnight attack on Friday (16/8).
Russian forces also used three Iskander-M ballistic missiles during the attack, according to a statement posted on the Ukrainian Air Force's Telegram messaging app.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia used three Shahed-type drones and two drones of an unknown type for the attack.

Reuters previously reported that Russia had turned to cheap drones in some of its strikes in Ukraine, to try to identify air defenses and act as decoys.

The governors of Kyiv and Kirovohrad regions reported no damage or casualties after the attack. Kyiv city authorities reported no damage to the capital's functioning air defenses overnight.

On Thursday, the military sounded air alerts four times to warn city residents of possible attacks.

Air warnings have been issued more than 1,200 times in Kyiv since the start of the full-scale invasion, authorities said Friday. (es/ft)
