The Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime confiscated today and transferred in favor of the state some assets of the citizen Alket Hatija, convicted of drug trafficking in cooperation several times, as well as of persons related to him.

SPAK announced that these actions are part of its work “for the identification, seizure and confiscation of assets which are suspected to derive from crime”.

Last October, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime decided to confiscate, at the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office, two land assets together 815 square meters in the “Plazh” neighborhood of Durrës owned by the citizen Alket Hatija, as well as property belonging to his relatives, a garage in the same neighborhood, two apartments, two apartments in Durrës and in Kavaja together 183 square meters, a car and 49 percent shares of the subject “Aquila Marble”.

Hatija and the persons related to him have further complained about this decision of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, but with a decision of July of this year the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime of upheld the decision of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime.

In the SPAK announcement, it is emphasized that Alket Hatija was found guilty in March 2010 by the former Court of First Instance for Serious Crimes forr drug trafficking in collaboration, more than once, a decision that was upheld in November of the same year by the former Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes.

The Special Prosecution requested the confiscation of Alket Hatija's assets in the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime based on the Normative Act of January 2020 on preventive measures in the framework of the fight against terrorism, organized crime, serious crimes and consolidation of public security order.

Hatija, now 51 years old, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by Italian justice for transporting 350 kg of heroin and 190 kg of cocaine worth 35-45 million euros in 2003-2004. He was arrested in Albania last August and extradited to Italy a few days after his arrest.

According to the announcement of the Albanian police at the time, during the “International” operation, Alket Hatija was arrested, announced as an international wanted by Interpol Rome, after the Court of Appeal in Milan sentenced him to two decades of imprisonment for drug trafficking.

“Alket Hatija cooperated with 40 other citizens for the trafficking of large quantities of narcotics such as heroin during the period 2003-2004 from Albania to Italy through international transport vehicles”, said the police report.
