Russian state media on Wednesday (14/3) showed footage of people who had been evacuated from villages in the Kursk region and were taking shelter at a local boxing center.

“The sound of the cannons continued without a break. My house shook. All the windows shook. All the furniture moved,” said Tatyana Anikeeva, an elderly refugee from Suja.

According to video reports broadcast by Russian state media, Russian Red Cross volunteers are in the Kursk region to help people find their missing relatives.

The video footage also showed military personnel carrying injured civilians to hospital.

About 121,000 people have been evacuated from Kursk or have taken the initiative to leave the area affected by the fighting, Russian officials say. (ab/lt)
