A video obtained by the news agency Reuters shows Palestinians fleeing Khan Younis on Thursday (8/8), in accordance with a new evacuation order issued by Israel.
Reuters can independently verify the location with buildings, street lights, and road layouts matching satellite imagery and files of the area. Reuters can also confirm the date of the event with metadata files.
Some Palestinian families fled in vehicles, others on foot. Their belongings were piled on donkey carts and motorized rickshaws as they made their way slowly along the crowded streets.
The Israeli military renewed evacuation orders for Palestinians in several districts east of Khan Younis, and said it would take firm action against militants who have fired rockets from those areas.
The Israeli army posted the evacuation order on social media X. Palestinian residents in Khan Younis said they had also received text and audio messages.
Residents said dozens of families had begun leaving their homes and heading west towards Al-Mawasi, an area referred to as a refugee camp that is now overcrowded. (th/em)
