The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Wednesday (7/8) held an urgent meeting in Jeddah. They focused on increasing tensions and regional sovereignty issues in the Middle East.

The assembly of foreign ministers responded to the recent assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, former Palestinian Prime Minister and Hamas leader, and the attack on Iranian territory.

During the meeting, Gambian Foreign Minister Mamadou Tangara stressed the impact of the incident on international diplomacy.

“Today, we stand at a critical juncture in the history of our people, facing a crisis that threatens to undo decades of diplomatic efforts and drag our world into deeper conflict,” Tangara said.

“This killing will not extinguish the struggle of the Palestinian people. On the contrary, it will strengthen the struggle of the Palestinian people, underlining the importance of justice and human rights for the Palestinian people,” he added.

The OIC meeting was to foster a unified response to these challenges, advocating for peaceful resolution and respect for sovereignty throughout the region. (ka/ab)
