The killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh while he was in Iran raised fears that the war would spread beyond Gaza. Haniyeh became the second leader of a pro-Iranian group to be killed in a week, after the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Lebanon.
