American gymnast Simone Biles again reached the top of the classification at the Olympic Games.
Her unusual skills further boosted the U.S. gymnastics team during the finals at the Bercy Arena on Tuesday night.
The American team's score of 171.296 was clearly higher than Italy and Brazil and confirmed one of the highest rankings in the sport for gymnast Biles.
Among the spectators in the stadium were well-known names such as the tennis player Serena Williams, the actress Natalie Portman and the husband of the gymnast Biles, the American football player Jonathan Owens, of the “Chicago Bears” team in the NFL championship.
Ms. Biles withdrew from competition three years ago in order to protect herself — a decision that transformed the discourse on mental health in sports. Ms. Biles now has an astounding total of 38 medals won in major international competitions.
The Italian team, who unexpectedly finished second behind the American team, won their first Olympic medal since 1928, replacing Brazil who took the bronze medal for the first time in the sport.
