China's Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday (31/7) that the Chinese government will adjust drone export controls starting September 1, including eliminating a number of temporary export control rules for certain consumer drones.
In its statement, the ministry said it would also adjust control standards for some critical components of the drone, such as infrared imaging equipment and lasers for target indication.
This adjustment will help maintain the security and stability of the global industrial and supply chain, a ministry spokesman said.
Last year, China announced export controls on a number of drones and drone-related equipment, saying it wanted to safeguard “national security and interests” amid rising tensions with the United States over access to the technology.
Steps taken last year included two-year temporary export controls on some consumer drones, and no civilian drones will be allowed to be exported for military purposes.
The ministry later said it decided to expand drone export controls “appropriately,” without targeting specific countries and regions.
