An Italian non-governmental organization (NGO) released footage on Monday (29/7) showing its personnel rescuing 41 migrants, three of whom were unaccompanied minors.

The NGO, Emergency, said the migrants came from Bangladesh, Syria and Egypt.

Rescue teams acted quickly after spotting the overcrowded boat off the coast of Libya.

Anabel Montes Mier, head of mission on the Life Support ship of the NGO Emergency, said: “Early in the morning of July 29, a boat in distress was spotted from the command bridge of our ship. Immediately after that, we started the rescue operation. Everything went smoothly and we managed to bring 41 people on board, including three unaccompanied minors.”

Mier said an unidentified boat without lights approached during the rescue operation, but it did not interfere.

Two people on a small, overcrowded migrant boat quickly boarded the unidentified vessel, and left immediately.

Regarding the health of the migrants, Sauro Forni, an Italian nurse, said: “Their health is good, we are checking them one by one. There are some who feel dizzy and seasick, but nothing serious.”

After notifying the relevant authorities, the Life Support ship was ordered to sail to Naples, Italy, and is expected to arrive at the port on July 31 at around 6 p.m. local time. (lt/ns)
