In Albania, the head of the Vlora Prosecutor's Office, Aurel Zarka, was arrested today following an order issued by the Special Court. Together with her, it is known that a former officer of the Judicial Police, Eriona Dautaj, a lawyer, Radovan Çela, and an entrepreneur, Astrit Vladi, have been arrested.
The special prosecution, which requested the arrests, has not yet provided any information. But at least most of them seem to connect with each other the case of 3.4 million euros found in two Toyota Auris vehicles, arrived from Belgium at the Port of Durrës, in 2018.
Entrepreneur Vladi is the brother of one of the suspects in the case, while lawyer Çela was their legal representative in the process. Meanwhile, the former officer of the Dautaj Judicial Police, it is learned that she was involved in the investigation of the case.
The position of the head of the Vlora Prosecutor's Office, Zarka, and the reasons that led to his arrest remain unclear. Just a few weeks ago, he successfully passed the first stage of the re-evaluation process, while being confirmed in office by the Independent Qualification Commission.
The case of the large amount of money found in the two Toyota vehicles led to political debates at the time, after it was warned during a speech in parliament by the then chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha. According to him, it was about money coming from a drug trafficking group, with which he accused the socialist MP Taulant Balla. The latter denied any involvement, and sued Mr. Basha in Court for defamation, where he won the case.
