The judoka from Kosovo, Distria Krasniqi, won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Paris. She lost in the final to the judoka from Uzbekistan, Diyora Keldiyorova, securing Kosovo's first medal in these games.
Distria Krasniqi competed in the category up to 52 kilograms.
This is Distria Krasniqi's second Olympic medal after she won the gold medal in the up to 48 kilogram category at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Congratulating Distria Krasniq, the president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani wrote on social networks that “Kosovo is infinitely proud. Her silver, indeed, tastes like gold, because Distria will always remain a champion that inspires an entire state”.
This is the fourth medal for Kosovo since its first participation in these competitions in 2016.
In this year's games, Kosovo is represented by a team of nine, including five judokas.
