Paolo Ciabatti Says Marc Marquez Has Opportunity to Promote to Ducati Lenovo in MotoGP 2025
BORGO PANIGALE – Ducati Sports Director, Paolo Ciabatti, said that Marc Marquez has the opportunity to be promoted to Ducati Lenovo in MotoGP 2025. This is because they have not yet decided who will fill the seat in the factory team that season.
As is known, Marquez has decided to leave Repsol Honda to join Ducati’s satellite team, Gresini Ducati. It is known that the racer nicknamed The Baby Alien is under contract for one year. Which means, he will only be with Ducati in MotoGP 2024.
But the interesting fact is that the majority of riders’ contracts, including Ducati riders, will expire in 2024. But of course, the team based in Borgo Panigale will prioritize the figure of Francesco Bagnaia, who has succeeded in bringing Ducati Lenovo to two consecutive championships.
Meanwhile, we will see more about the figure who will be Bagnaia’s partner. It all depends on performance in the 2024 season. Ducati itself has a strong rider like Jorge Martin who is competing closely with Bagnaia in the race for the 2023 MotoGP title.
Apart from that, it is also possible that Enea Bastianini will be retained if his performance is good in the 2024 season. Likewise, Marquez is included in the Ducati factory team seat list for MotoGP 2025. Again, it all depends on their performance next season.
“Considering that we have not yet determined the drivers for the 2025 season, I can say without any problem that Marc will be one of the candidates for the official team,” said Ciabatti, quoted from GPone, Saturday (9/12/2023).
“Clearly there is an important aspect that needs to be emphasized, namely from an economic point of view. “We are no longer in the period before the pandemic, when racers seemed to be able to earn super big salaries,” he continued.
Ciabatti also acknowledged the quality of Marquez. The Baby Alien’s move to Gresini Racing certainly did not escape his desire to win the MotoGP title again. If he impresses next season, Ducati will definitely consider him to fill the factory team seat for MotoGP 2025.
“Marc is clearly a winner and his world title proves it. So if he chooses (joins) Ducati, it’s because he wants to win again. For us, this will be something new and at the same time a situation that must be faced,” said Ciabatti.
