LONDON – To find out how old dinosaurs are as quoted from the Fossilera page, there are two main methods, namely relative dating and absolute dating.

Relative dating is used to determine the approximate age of dinosaurs by comparing them to similar rocks and fossils of known age.
Meanwhile, absolute dating is used to determine the exact age of a fossil by using radiometric dating to measure the decay of isotopes, either in the fossil or more often in the rocks associated with it.
As reported by IFL Science, scientists use two main methods to determine the age of dinosaur fossils, namely:
Fossil index method
This method is based on the principle that certain fossils are only found in certain time periods. By comparing dinosaur fossils with other fossils of known age, scientists can estimate the age of the dinosaur fossil.
Radiometric dating method
This method is based on the principle that radioactive elements will decay naturally at a constant rate. By measuring the amount of radioactive elements and smear products, scientists can calculate the age of the fossil.
The radiometric dating method is the most accurate method for determining the age of dinosaur fossils. This method can be used for fossils up to billions of years old.
