JAKARTA – In recent years, cyber attacks have continued to increase and become increasingly deadly. Most of these attacks are intended to access third people’s personal data.
In some cases, that data is used for financial gain and in other cases to influence political choices. The increasing cases of cyber attacks show the need for a strong cyber security system.
Reflecting on the recent General Election Commission (KPU) data leak, it can be seen how the abundance of sensitive information such as personal data that is stored and transferred digitally is a challenge for increasingly complex information security systems.
Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, said that the KPU data leak case should be a lesson in the importance of strengthening protection for data security systems, considering that personal data leaks have serious impacts on institutions and corporations, ranging from damage to reputation, to legal implications.
“The alleged data leak should be a warning to all election organizers to strengthen data security. We don’t want to blame, so we take care of each other. “This is a warning to the KPU to maintain the system better,” he stressed.
For your information, Law Number 27 of 2022 guarantees the protection of the personal data of every individual in Indonesia. Apart from that, this law also encourages every institution or company that manages personal data to be more responsible in ensuring the security and confidentiality of this information. If a violation is committed, the sanctions given will have a deterrent effect and allow the victim to receive appropriate compensation.
“Personal data protection has become a critical issue because your personal data is among the most valuable things, from your identity, financial information, to health. “Therefore, technology companies and government organizations need to improve the security of IT systems to maintain the security of personal data exposed on the internet,” said CEO of PT Equnix Business Solutions, Julyanto Sutandang.
According to Julyanto, cyberattack perpetrators generally steal user identities and data using various intelligent and skilled methods. Therefore, a strong cybersecurity system must be designed to monitor attacks from the earliest stages, both to protect against internal and external threats.
In order to prevent data leaks, according to Julyanto, every organization needs to strengthen three things: capable technology, governance and governance.
Don’t forget, another thing that is no less important is enforcing policies against security violations. Enforcement will have a significant impact on collective awareness and discipline in safeguarding sensitive data.
“It is important for organizations to implement appropriate data protection measures, such as data encryption with adequate key management, strengthening application security, implementing effective access rights management, ensuring users have the right access rights, managing security privileges, and enforcing policies and providing appropriate sanctions,” he said.
It doesn’t stop there, in dealing with cyber attacks, security technology must also continue to be updated and improved in order to provide better data protection and remain effective in preventing cyber attacks.
