Fachrul Razi’s profile
Fachrul Razi is the third Minister of Religion in the government of the Republic of Indonesia. This man, whose full name is General TNI (Ret.) H. Fachrul Razi, SIP, SH, MH, is a son of the Maninjau area, West Sumatra, whose parents migrated with him when he was small.
Fachrul was born in Kutaradja, Aceh on July 26 1947. He is the oldest newly appointed minister in the cabinet in Indonesian history.
Since being active as a TNI officer and in the military world, Fachrul has had a lot of experience in the infantry field. Fachrul was also assigned to Iran-Iraq on the UNIIMOG mission.
Apart from that, he has held several strategic positions. For example, Governor of Military Academy in 1996-1997, Chief of General Staff of ABRI in 1998-1999, and Deputy Commander of TNI in 1999-2000.
After becoming a retired TNI officer, Fachrul had a career as President Commissioner in various companies. These include PT Central Proteina Prima Tbk and PT Antam Tbk.
Since he was young, Fachrul was known as a person who diligently prayed and was involved in the activities of Islamic organizations. He even became one of the mosque guide cadets while still studying in the military.
He is also a member of the Executive Board of the Mathla’ul Anwar Mass Organization (PBMA). Fahrul was then asked to enter the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet for the 2019 – 2024 period as Minister of Religion.
Unfortunately, Fachrul had to relinquish this position when President Jokowi carried out a cabinet reshuffle. He was then replaced by Yaqut Cholil Qumas who was appointed as Minister of Religion on December 23 2020.
Fachrul Razi’s confession was removed because of FPI
In the podcast, Fachrul reveals the chronology leading up to the cabinet reshuffle. Initially he was one of the parties asked for advice in the plan to disband FPI. However, he was also the only person who refused to disband the banned organization.
“At that time, one week before the reshuffle, we had a cabinet meeting. The topic was discussing the dissolution of FPI. I was present at the meeting at that time,” said Fachrul.
“When it came to discussion, all the ministers and all heads of the agency agreed to disband it. I was the only one who said that (rejecting the dissolution of FPI),” continued Fachrul.
Fachrul Razi has his own reasons why he did not disband FPI. According to him, the organization does not need to be disbanded, but only needs to be fostered.
“I always say it to the President (Jokowi), even the second time. The vice president also (called me). I said, ‘Sir, there is no need to disband (FPI), we can just build it’. Yes, that’s not a problem because (FPI) not a threat to me,” explained Fachrul.
A week later after the meeting, Fachrul was suddenly removed through a reshuffle of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. Fachrul finally linked this situation to his rejection of the plan to disband FPI.
Fachrul’s figure is now widely discussed by the public. Even the Palace and the Ministry of Religion (Kemenang) opened their voices in response to Fachrul’s statement regarding the cabinet reshuffle.
