SOLO – The German U-17 national team dramatically won the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The young Der Panzer team beat France U-17 in a penalty shootout 2-2 (4-3) in the final match which took place at the Manahan Stadium, Solo, Saturday (2/12/2023).
This is the first time Germany U-17 has won the world youth football event. Previously, they also successfully won the U-17 European Cup after beating France U-17 via a penalty shootout.
PSSI General Chair, Erick Thohir said, Germany U-17 and France U-17 presented a high quality final match. Of course, the final match left a deep impression on the Indonesian football public.
“A truly thrilling match. A climactic final. France showed a mentality of never giving up. Even though they were behind, they were able to chase the score to force the match to end in a penalty shootout,” said Erick in his official statement, Saturday (2/12/2023).
According to him, Germany U-17 really deserved to win the U-17 World Cup. The reason is, the team’s performance is quite extraordinary from match to match.
“Germany deserves to be champions. Since the preliminary round, their performance graph has continued to climb. They got rid of strong teams from Spain and Argentina before finally meeting France in the top match,” he said.
Erick hopes that the U-17 World Cup will be an example of the importance of being serious about early childhood development. This means that to form a solid senior national team, it needs to be supported by continuous coaching.
“PSSI learned a lot from the U-17 World Cup, not only as an event manager but also in thinking about the future regarding coaching,” he concluded.
