Suara.com – East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Chief (Kapolda NTT) Inspector General Pol Johanis Asadoma emphasized that acts of violence by a group of community organizations (Ormas) in Kupang City against Papuan students cannot be justified.
“Therefore, the NTT Regional Police will take firm action in accordance with applicable law against perpetrators of acts of violence against Papuan students,” he said in Kupang, Saturday (2/12/2023) evening.
This was conveyed by the NTT Regional Police Chief in connection with a viral video showing the beating of a number of Papuan students during a demonstration in Kupang City.
A number of students held a demonstration on Friday (1/12/2023) to commemorate the declaration of West Papua Province.
While they were demonstrating, they were approached by a number of mass organizations in Kupang City, namely the Garda Flobamora and Garuda organizations. Arguments are inevitable between mass organizations and students.
From the video circulating, a number of students did not respond to the blows from several people who were members of the mass organization.
The NTT Regional Police Chief said that he had ordered his members to investigate the matter, and if it was proven, action would be taken immediately.
He also regretted the actions of these mass organizations, when NTT, especially Kupang City, was in a state of peace and tranquility.
“We will take firm action and prosecute those who commit acts of violence,” he said. (Source: Antara)
