Naturalized defender, Shayne Pattynama, revealed the reasons why he chose to play for the Indonesian national team for his football career. It turns out that he is not chasing popularity.
As is known, Shayne Pattynama became one of the third naturalized players in the Shin Tae-yong era. It’s quite a long road for players who defend Viking FK to become Indonesian citizens (WNI).
Long before he became an Indonesian citizen, there was an interesting story where Shayne Pattynama was given the choice to choose to play for the Dutch national team or the Indonesian national team.
By uploading the Instagram account @liputantimnasindonesia, Shayne Pattynama clearly prefers the Indonesian national team to the Dutch.
He prefers to defend the Indonesian National Team, not because he is looking for popularity in his country.
“I chose Indonesia. For me, this is not just about the national team, but I chose (Indonesia) because this is my father’s country,” said Shayne Pattynama.
“For me, it’s not just about playing in the national team but playing for him (my father),” he concluded.
Shayne Pattynama finally officially became an Indonesian citizen on Tuesday (24/1/2023). He has played 5 matches with the Indonesian National Team and managed to score one goal.
The goal was scored when the Indonesian National Team visited Iraq in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers where the Garuda squad lost with a score of 1-5.
