Suara.com – Borussia Dortmund managed to lock up a ticket to the last 16 of the 2023-2024 Champions League after beating AC Milan on the fifth matchday of Group F, Wednesday (29/11/2023) early morning WIB.
Playing at the opponent’s home ground, San Siro, Dortmund performed brilliantly by beating hosts AC Milan with a score of 3-1.
Marco Reus opened the scoring for Die Borussen after only 10 minutes of the match.
Reus won the battle by sending a shot in the penalty box which managed to go past Mike Maignan and into the top left corner of the goal.
AC Milan only managed to equalize in the 37th minute, Samuel Chukwueze managed to break through Gregor Kobel’s goal to change the score to 1-1.
Chukwueze performed a solo dribble and fired a shot from inside the penalty box which nestled into the bottom left corner of the goal.
In the second half AC Milan created many opportunities through Davide Calabria and Christian Pulisic. However, it was Dortmund who were able to add goals.
Dortmund restored their lead through Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. His neat collaboration with Marcel Sabitzer in the 59th minute succeeded in changing the score to 2-1.
Sabitzer played a vital role in the goal process. He fed Jamie Bynoe-Gittens who managed to beat Mike Maignan with a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal.
As if not letting the Rossoneri get back up, Dortmund increased their lead again in the 69th minute through Karim Adeyemi.
Karim Adeyemi reacted to receive a brilliant pass, but he could only fire a powerless shot into the middle of the goal.
However, the goalkeeper made a big blunder, and the ball went in. Goal-line technology proved its effectiveness as the referee immediately confirmed the ball had crossed the line!
This victory makes Borussia Dortmund firmly at the top of the standings with a collection of 10 points from five matches. They are three points ahead of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in second place.
The additional three points mean that Dortmund will certainly finish in the top two of Group F and have the right to secure a ticket to the last 16 of the 2023-2024 Champions League.
It is impossible for Dortmund to catch up with Newcastle United and AC Milan, who are now in third and fourth place with five points.
For Milan, this defeat is not the end of everything. The match against Newcastle United will determine whether they qualify for the top 16 provided that PSG loses to Dortmund in the last match.
