JAKARTA – Indonesian badminton legend Alan Budikusuma is optimistic that Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie have a great chance of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, according to him, the two Indonesian men’s singles champions must be able to prepare themselves as best as possible and improve several things that they still lack.
For your information, the total number of badminton men’s singles participants at the 2024 Paris Olympics is 38 players. However, each country can only send a maximum of two representatives to this four-yearly event provided that both are in the top 16 of the Race to Olympics.
So, currently Ginting and Jonathan are in the safe zone. They are in 5th and 8th place in the Race to Olympic Paris 2024 by collecting 66,671 points and 64,291 points respectively.
For now, they are both more than 10 thousand points away from 16th position so they still have a big chance of securing two tickets to Paris 2024. However, they cannot be careless because collecting qualifying points will only end at the end of next April.
Nevertheless, Alan is confident that the players ranked 2nd and 4th in the world will be able to qualify for Paris 2024. He believes that the two Indonesian men’s singles stars have a great chance of appearing at the biggest sporting event in the world.
“I see that they both have a big chance (of qualifying for the Olympics) and they are currently ranked in the top 10, of course we hope this doesn’t change until later in the Olympics,” said Alan when met in East Jakarta, Saturday (25/11/2023) .
Alan also hopes that Ginting and Jonathan can continue to develop in order to perform optimally in Paris 2024. One of the things he highlighted is the problem of consistency of play in each tournament, which up to now they have not been able to do.
“And of course, in less than a year’s time, we hope that their achievements will be more stable, their performances will be better. And yes, currently there are wins and losses, but in the future we hope they will be more consistent, more mature, more confident too,” concluded gold medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
