JAKARTA – The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) ensures that Indonesian people are required to have a Digital ID. This is stated in the second Amendment Bill to the ITE Law which has been agreed upon by the Government and the DPR RI.
Director of Aptika Kominfo, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan explained, with the use of Digital ID, people will make online transactions faster, more comfortable and safer. Because, not all people’s personal data will be exchanged in the digital space.
“Digital ID is shaped like a number, an algorithm. This is for transactions and even to get access to government services. It will validate the accuracy of people who are active in the digital space,” said Semuel in a press conference on Thursday (23/11/2023).
The bespectacled man who is often known as Semy also confirmed that Digital ID will narrow the space for cybercriminals to carry out their actions. Apart from the fact that the Digital ID is only known to the owner, it is also because the Digital ID only contains a small amount of personal data.
“With this regulation in effect, we cannot provide personal data carelessly so that it is not exchanged openly. In the future, it is mandatory for government services to make it easy to enter government services. But it takes time, yes. “Right now we are just introducing it,” he continued.
He added that digital ID is to prevent data leaks and misuse by irresponsible parties. “The most complete personal data in Indonesia is in Dukcapil, but using this Digital ID we don’t need all of it, it’s safer,” he concluded.
